Baren Digest Thursday, 15 November 2001 Volume 17 : Number 1618 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Cucamongie@aol.com Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 08:46:12 EST Subject: [Baren 16142] thanks and print questions Hi folks, thanks so much for your nice words. "Pigment stick rubbing from woodblocks" means, as Graham said, that I carved the woodblock, placed the paper over the woodblock and rubbed on top with things that are like crayons but contain much more concentrated pigment. I often do this just to test colors and registration, and in this case I happened to like the rough effect of the rubbing, so I went with it. As for the edition size, it's merely a matter of not thinking of putting that info up on the site - sometime soon I'll be updating stuff there, so I'll add that info when I do. The edition size for that particular print is a variable edition of 50. best wishes and thanks all for your support, Sarah ------------------------------ From: "autumnleaves" Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 14:58:51 -0000 Subject: [Baren 16143] New Year Card Hi, Please add my name to New Year Card list. I've done all sorts of other art endeavors in the past--writing about it, fiber arts, surface design on fabric, art doll design, painting, collage work, etc., but am "settling" on my current passion--linocut printmaking and woodcut printmaking (sometimes combined with collages). I'm a rank beginner, but already am engrossed in this.....reading voraciously everything I can find on the net about it, learning the differences between the styles, spending lots of money on books , etc. I got interested in woodcarving several years ago when I bought some carvings in New Mexico...then my husband carved a star into the headboard of a new bed he built, and then left his tools laying around! LOL Once I got ahold of them, there was no turning back! I prefer to play with ink and paint, though, so I guess doing prints was inevitable....I do have carpal tunnel syndrome, so I switch out the woodcuts with the linocuts now and then. I'm looking forward to participating in the group, learning what I can, helping out wherever I can, etc. Looks like a great group full of artists with a variety of styles.... ><< http://www.womanmade.org/show.html?type=solo&gallery=animals2001&pic=1 >> >Congrats to you, Sarah, on another PRIZE woodcut! And Sarah, congratulations....I love your woodcut! The expression on that woman's face is priceless...and such a contrast between those frisky pups! Bobbi C.
