Jean, there were three (recent) notices about sign-up for Exchange #8: [11519] on Oct 1st [11541] on Oct 3rd [11593] on Oct 8th. > I hope I get a little advance notice about the > next one. Info on future exchanges is _always_ available on the main exchange information page. Go the the main portal page: http://woodblock.com ... and you will see the link right in the centre of the page. If that's not clear, then the Administration Links page is also available to help you find things ... *** Somebody wrote: > Plese remove me from you list.....I am currently unable to > participate.... Same here ... anybody who wants to 'get off' just go to the portal page, and you will see a link that says 'How to Subscribe'. There are very simple directions there on how to get off. This info _also_ is available from the Administration Links page ... There was also a notice about it on Baren-Suji for October and I also eluded to it last week, when I posted about the lack of time or interest for doing calendars due to ongoing exchanges and swaps. See below.......if there's any consolation, I almost missed the signup this time myself and only because I decided to search on ebay did I remember on Sunday morning...with a mere 9 minutes to go......to make matters worse...I got beat to the signup page by a pup named Yuki.......now is that fair ? I don't know if can I qualify as a member because I'm a textile printer using printmaking methods as surface design. Mostly monoprint, linoleum cuts and collagraphs. Then I make those fabrics into quilts. No, not quilts like your grandmother made. Semper Tedium. Not much woodcut, though I have done some and occasionally print on paper. Your print exchanges are wonderful and intriguing. Maybe one day I'll join in if people don't mind getting prints on cloth. In the meantime I will go back to quietly lurking here in the corner and contribute what I can. What an interesting idea! ...Printing on fabric and then quilting it! And what great quilts on your site! Can you tell me about the inks that you use and how you 'set' the inks to make them permanent? Do you hand quilt or machine stitch your quilts? Lots of questions! Welcome to baren! Fabric is just another fiber, not much dfferent than paper! It's exciting to see the way you use the various print mediums on fabric. Have long wanted to do a quilt for my bed and you have inspired me to do more than just dream about it. By the way welcome to "Baren"..... wouldn't it be great fun to do an exchange where we all printed on cotton. I have a home-made plywood drying rack with about 30 shelves approximately 20"x 24", but the clothes line can be expanded overhead for easily three times the quantity. A couple of things to add that I've found helpful about clothes lines that so far no one else has mentioned--even with the biggest, heaviest sheets of paper (and some have been about 24 x 36), I've found it best to clip two prints back to back. If they are damp, they tend to curl. This way they curl against each other and remain amazingly flat. Also, the weight on the line can be a real consideration as it will naturally sag to the middle. To keep the prints from sliding together and smearing, I hang each set of two by a plastic clothes pin with a clothes hook on one end. I'm sure you've seen these sold in hardware and dime stores. These are quite easy to put on the line and take off. Between the hooked clothes pins are positioned ordinary clip-type clothes pins, which keep the pins with the hanging prints separated. In relatively dry weather the prints can usually be taken down in 24 hours. During clammy fall monsoons, 48 hours are enough. By the way, the dancing dragons are delightful! <^><^><^><^><^><^> Michelle Morrell jmmorrell@gci.net <^><^><^><^><^><^> ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V13 #1175 *****************************
