Baren Digest Sunday, 1 October 2000 Volume 13 : Number 1163 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Gayle Wohlken Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 10:13:05 -0400 Subject: [Baren 11518] Re: Baren Digest V12 #1162 Due to events out of my control, the Kent/Geauga exhibit will be on display in November instead of October. The school needs that window I was going to use. The Student Senate's window is being taken over by the Theater Department for the Fall play, so the Senate was given the window I was to have used for the Baren display. One good thing is I will have my color printer in a week and there will be time to design a post card. I'll keep everyone posted and when the display is up I'll send pictures to Show and Tell. One positive thing may come out of it; there might be a chance to demonstrate some woodcut techniques while the exhibit is up, and I like the idea of people being able to watch the process as well as look at the finished pieces. After all, it is a school and what better place is there for that? Byrd" Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 20:31:42 -0400 Subject: [Baren 11520] Presses. I have been in and out lately with a new job and have scanned through several weeks of digests. I noticed a lot of conversation of various press types. I would like to pass along something I found very interesting. Some of you may know about this already, but for those of you that are in need of a quality press with limited budgets. Check this link: http://www.dougforsythegallery.com/EtchingPress.html Most of the people on this list are inventive and resourceful. Couple that with this information and your imagination is the only limit. Build the press of your dreams? Sure why not. There are some estimated cost for items, but like I said, be resourceful. Those costs are not etched in stone. I found quite a few ways to get costs down, even trading services to get what I need. I love hand printing and it is my specialty, but the idea of owning a beautiful custom built press is a very strong desire. The idea of not limiting myself to one technique is a driving force I can't fight. Using a press seems to be considered a violation of purity for some. For me, it would be denying the desire to explore. Michael Byrd Operations Supervisor James A.
