The reception is Saturday, September 16 from 2-5 p.m at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church 1721 Arizona Avenue in Santa Monica. I'd love to meet the printmakers in this area. So that's what you have been doing... Congratulations, I'm there, Ruth! Come one come all, let's have yet another L.A. bash! We can go body surfing after the reception? no? clam-digging? Lacking the innocent hands of Himi and Fumi, this year we had to come up with new ways to extract the winners from the virtual glass bowl. I can guarantee that the process was fair and square. As for the details, let's just say that I'm tired of counting crickets by the moonlight or dog-food kernels taken by the neighborhood pigeons (and who woulda thunk there would be so many fire-ants in a single nest!). In any case, 3 random members of the council somehow managed to come up with 3 random numbers corresponding to 3 posts from [Baren] members. And now! The moment we have all been waiting for with bated breath (which is why they invented breath mints): Maestro! DRRRRUM RRRRRROLL, si vous please, l'envelope... First prize is the print on display on the Silly Season page. http://woodblock.com/forum/silly And it goes tooooooooo: post #10985 by Darrell Madis (whistles, cheers, applause!) Second prize is the Hotei calendar "Japanese Landscapes of the 20th Century", featuring beautiful reproductions of 12 famous shin hanga prints. (The year is nearly over, but hey, the prints are timeless!) The silver medal winneeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr: post #10777 by Georga Garside (more cheers and streamers!) Third prize is a package of 16 Hiroshige print reproductions - not hand-made prints unfortunately, but machine-printed. A wonderful example of the masterful creative design skills of Hiroshige. Will the bronze medal winner, please step up: post #10968 by Graham Scholes (a standing ovation, some folks fall off the balcony while choking on confetti in the excitement of it all!) Congrats to the winners! Dave will need Darrell's address so he can send all the prints across the vast oceans. As usual, health and better luck next time to all, Maria <><><><><><><><><><><><> Maria Arango, Printmaker Las Vegas Nevada USA http://www.1000woodcuts.com Follow along! quest1000woodcuts@hotmail.com maria@mariarango.com <><><><><><><><><><><><> ------------------------------ From: "eli griggs" Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2000 14:57:32 -0000 Subject: [Baren 11218] ebooks charset="iso-8859-1" Hi there: Something neat that I think some of you might be interesting is a free download on ZDNET http://cgi.zdnet.com/slink?51858:6418616. This is for a search engine and library file for finding, downloading and reading ebooks from Project Gutenburg. Most of the ebooks were published before 1923 and the copyrights expired, but there are many, many wonderful titles here and they are FREE, to download and pass about. It may well be that somewhere in the cyber stacks Baren members can find writings on printmaking, artwork or good ol' inspiration which we can share in. Whatever the results I thought this was too good a thing not to pass on. By the way I also saw what looked to be music files so who know what you might find. Good hunting! Eli Griggs Charlotte N.C. It is not necessary in the US to use the symbol, either. As Thomas said, the minute you put it down on paper, canvas, etc. its yours. However, if you get in a battle royale and have it registered with the copyright office you can claim, some additional damages. Without it you can claim reimbursement for your work at its market value. With it you can claim additional things. (Can you tell I'm not an atty?)It is inexpensive to register copyrights and you can send in a lot of images and register them as a collection - no need to pay the small fee for each of them. Details can be obtained at the address Thomas sent. There is no time limit after creating the work, but it should be copyrighted before it is shown or put on the market, and there is a time limit after it has been shown. Much safer to do it the other way! Meanwhile, some States require a disclosure statement, and all of the information pertaining to that print should be stated thereon and attached to the back of the print, or included with it at the time of sale. Some places call this a Certificate of Authenticity. Northwest Print Council has disclosure statement forms if anyone wants it. ------------------------------ From: Gerald Soworka Date: Thu, 07 Sep 2000 15:53:44 +1000 Subject: [Baren 11229] Re: ruth's show and invitation to another show good luck with the show, ruth.
